Beijing is the political, cultural and education center of China, where numerous residential compounds, universities and parks are located. These large but closed properties have divided the city of Beijing. Opening up these areas reduces bike travel times and help reduce traffic congestion on the main roads.

Take the 1215-hectare Olympic Park as an example. Because the Olympic Park is closed to bicycles, many citizens have to stop their bicycles outside the enclosure of the core region and then walk into the Park. In fact, there are convenient bike lanes and other communication facilities inside the Park, but they are not opened to the public. Therefore, a lot of bike lanes are left unused.

Recommendation: Open Parks and Compounds to Bicycles to reduce bike travel times and relieve traffic congestion on the main roads.
